About Chiropractic                                                                                                                         The Doctor of Chiropractic is a specialist in spinal musculoskeletal disorders. He or she is expertly trained to diagnose and treat the injuries that may occur on the job, or in your daily life.

When injured, the normal vertebra position or flexibility of the spine can be changed. Chiropractic care restores normal alignment and movement, minimizing pain and suffering. Gentle adjustments are effective in rapidly returning you to your productive lifestyle. The Doctor of Chiropractic can also provide guidance to reduce work-related injuries, and to practice proper lifting procedures and therapeutic stretching.

FAQs

WHAT CAUSES THE NOISE OF AN ADJUSTMENT?                                                                A few years ago, a British research team took X-ray video of a person “popping” his knuckles and found that gas (80% carbon dioxide) rushes in to fill a partial vacuum created when the joint surfaces are slightly separated. Some believe this displacement of joint fluid is the cause of the noise.

IS IT BAD TO “CRACK” YOUR OWN NECK OR BACK?                                                           Yes. When you crack or pop your own neck, you’re not giving yourself an adjustment. Tension keeps building up in the joints because of spinal imbalance and only a Chiropractor can relieve the stress. When you crack your own neck, after awhile the urge to crack reoccurs because the jammed vertebrae have not been corrected.

CAN YOU TELL ON YOUR OWN IF YOU HAVE A SUBLUXATION?                     Generally, no. A subluxation or vertebral fixation can be likened to a dental cavity: you may have one developing for a long time with no noticeable symptoms. That’s why periodic spinal examinations by a Chiropractor are so often recommended. After a period of time under Chiropractic care, some people become more spine conscious and can actually tell when they need an adjustment. Although it may be possible to know when you have a spinal fixation, it is rarely possible to be sure you don’t have any. For that reason, check-ups by a Chiropractor are advisable.

HOW LONG DOES A SPINAL ADJUSTMENT TAKE?                                                     Usually just a few minutes to a quarter hour, once the Chiropractor is familiar with your spine. It all depends on the adjusting technique used.

CAN CHIROPRACTIC PREVENT BACK SURGERY?                                                                  In a majority of cases, the answer is a resounding “YES!”

CAN A PERSON WHO HAD BACK SURGERY SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?                        Yes. Many people who have had various kinds of spinal surgery often discover a return to their same back problems months or years later. There are so many of these people around that the condition has a special name: “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.” These people usually receive Chiropractic care without worry. Often, Chiropractic care will save them from future operations. It’s best to check with your Chiropractor, who will recommend treatment on a personal, case-by-case basis.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE ADDICTIVE?                                                                                         It is possible to get used to feeling more balanced, less stressed, and more energetic as a result of periodic Chiropractic care. You may become more sensitive to your body and know when it is time for an adjustment.

CAN I GO ONLY ONCE?                                                                                                                  Of course. Once is better than never. Sometimes a spinal problem may be due to nothing more than a slight spinal misalignment rather than long standing vertebral fixation. In that case, one visit may be all that is needed. But Chiropractic is really more than a glorified aspirin. Take advantage of all the benefits Chiropractic can bring to your life.
